Shabby Button Card

I just love the sewing, button, and otherwise "crafty" stamps in my collection.  It seems that I don't take them out and use them nearly as often as I'd like; but for today's card, I decided to revisit a few old favorites.  I also included some MME paper for the base, and some October Afternoon patterned papers and stickers, as well as some baker's twine, jute, a crocheted doily, machine stitching, a vintage (red) button, a wooden spool button, and some vintage lace.
Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog - Simon Says ANYTHING GOES this week, and this is my 5th and final entry this week.  Crossing my fingers!!

The Ribbon Reel - Challenge #52 - "Love Letters" inspired by the colors and themes in this photo, plus buttons (I used a wooden spool button with an antique red button in the center), ribbon (I used lace and jute) and baker's twine:
Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge - #152 - "Needle It"  As I most often tend to do, this card includes machine stitching (in red).

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek, and leaving a comment.  I look forward to visiting all of you to see what you've been creating this week.  I always like to try something new.  How about you?

Blessings to you all,
Karen

Pop of Color at The Kraft Journal

Today is Monday, which means it's time for another great challenge at The Kraft Journal Challenge Blog and the theme of this week's challenge is "Pop of Color", and as you can see...my POP of color is RED.  I started my project with three adorable Mini Kraft Merchandise Bags which I bound together using my Zutter binding machine to create a little keepsake/gift card holder album.  I also used some Jenni Bowlin Paper Edged Rub-Ons, black and red Baker's Twine, Jenni Bowlin Chipboard Office Buttons, Tim Holtz Adage Tickets, Tim Holtz Journaling Ticket (great for journaling in these little mini albums), some Natural Twill Tape Ribbon along with scrunched some seam binding tied on the binding, and some Red and White Polka Dot Washi Tape from the WONDERFUL selection of washi and decorative tapes available at The Kraft Outlet.
The sentiment (Love You) is from Paper Sweeties, and you see that I've tucked a gift card in the pocket.
Additional products used from The Kraft Outlet include the super fun Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon, Jenni Bowlin Chipboard Banner Pieces topped with the coordinating Flag Banner Stickers and Numbered Flag Stickers, and I also used half of a Jenni Bowlin Journalling Card, and a Mini Canvas Tag, along with a few other embellishments.  You can see that I added quite a few goodies to this tiny little album, but the Kraft Outlet is just FULL of wonderful "krafty" goodness for all your crafting needs.
Please stop by this week and share your projects with us at The Kraft Journal Challenge Blog.  You can enter anything that uses kraft paper or kraft products, or any items purchased at The Kraft Outlet and that meets this week's theme (Pop of Color).  We would really love to have you play along.
I'm entering this little album in the following challenges this week:

The Ribbon Carousel Challenge Blog - Challenge #80 - Showers and Flowers - I love flowers, and for this project I used Recollections flowers from Michaels as well as lots of gorgeous seam bind and baker's twine.

Allsorts Challenge Blog - Challenge #204 - Anything But a Card - it's fun to make projects other than cards.  I really enjoyed making this little keepsake album

Have a blessed week,
Karen

Black and White at Eureka Stamps

This week's challenge at Eureka Stamps Challenge Blog is a Black & White theme.  I couldn't resist adding just a bit of color to my project.  I started with some black and white Bazzil cardstock and black and white/white and black polka dot patterned papers from my stash.  I used Eureka Stamps digi#23902 Cool Cat With Shades as my focal point, and then created the sentiment out of various rub-ons (inspire and me) and a canvas letter from my stash (red U), along with some black and red Baker's twine, and some inking and machine stitching.  Pretty simple card, but Eureka Stamps has really cute images that make card-making easy.  Being a Black & White Challenge, I didn't have to even touch the image with any color at all to make it look this way.  I hope that you will stop by Eureka Stamps Challenge Blog and share with us this week if you have any Black & White projects.

Recycle/Reuse at The Kraft Outlet

This week's challenge at The Kraft Journal is one of my favorites.  It a Recycle/Reuse Challenge, which means that you have the opportunity to take something old or disregarded, and repurpose it into something useful.  Some of you may remember the last time I did this for The Kraft Outlet and used the packaging from the Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon to make a candy holder for my daughter.  Well, this time I used an old tin pencil box that I painted cream using acrylic paint.  I decorated it by making some flowers using the darling and shabby Vintage Dictionary Pages and a Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die-cut.  Then, I added the "Treasures" rub-on sentiment to a strip of cream colored Twill Tape.  I also used some sweet Baker's Twine, flowers and vintage goodies as the finishing touches.
On the inside of the pencil box, I tucked in a matching set of pencils and porcelain-coated paper clips that I had picked up in the Dollar Bins at Michaels some time ago.  They fit just perfectly inside this pencil box, and I thought this would make a nice little gift.
That's about all there is to it.  I really hope that you will grab something from your stash that you're not using, and recycle or reuse it in a useful way.  We would just LOVE to have you share your ideas and art in our Recycle/Resuse Challenge this week at The Kraft Journal.  We have recently changed the rules at The Kraft Journal Challenge Blog and we have decided to limit the number of entries each week.  But this doesn't, in ANY WAY, decrease your odds of winning.  Our Top 3 has always been based on creativity.  So, if you enter a terrific creation that fits our theme and uses Kraft or Kraft Outlet products, you can make our Top 3 and go into the monthly drawing for the big monthly prize.  I really hope you will stop by and share with us.  And don't forget to get some awesome new goodies at the WONDERFUL Kraft Outlet.

I'm entering this project into the following challenges:

Joanna Sheen Challenge Blog - Recycle - You can read all the details above how I Recycled and Reused this old tin pencil box to create this lovely gift

Penny Black/All Sorts Challenge Blog - April Challenge - Blossoms and Bows - I used Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die-cuts and some vintage dictionary pages to make my blossoms, and I used twill tape to make my bows.

Loves Rubber Stamps Challenge - Challenge #48 - Spring Colors

Simon Says Stamp & Show Vintage Challenge Blog - A Color Challenge - For this project, I started with cream acrylic paint to cover the entire pencil box.  I kept the colors pretty subdued, but dyed the flowers pink and inked the dictionary pages that I used to cut my flowers to give it just a little pop of color.

Cupcake Inspirations Challenge Blog - Challenge #207 - I was inspired by the gorgeous inspiration photo with bright Spring colors and Floral Bouquet.  I tried to capture this in my project.

The Ribbon Carousel Challenge Blog - Challenge #80 - Showers and Flowers - I made my flowers from vintage dictionary pages, and of course I used ribbon (twill ribbon on which I put my sentiment as well as baker's twine).

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a blessed day.
Karen

Blessings to You From Word Art Wednesday

Happy middle-of-the-week everyone!  It's Wednesday again, and time for another great challenge at Word Art Wednesday, and this is the perfect week to play along and share your talents with us because the prize this week is a $15 Gift Certificate to the FABOLOUS Freckled Fawn.  For those of you who know how wonderful the Freckled Fawn is, I'm really hoping that you will all come by and enter for the chance to win this AMAZING prize.  I sure wish I could enter to win.  I would be SO blessed to have you come by and share with us this week!
And if you happen to own any Freckled Fawn products and want to use them in this week's challenge, just leave a comment to let me know, and those entries will go into a special Freckled Fawn give-away from me. Just stop by Word Art Wednesday Challenge Blog this week and link up your art with us. We will be SO blessed to have you share. And.....don't forget that fabulous prize!
The seam binding I used on this card is from V's Sweet Ideas, and the tag I used was from JoAnn's Crafts.  All the little flowers I used are from Michael's Dollar Bins.  The green one used to be white, but I used Glimmer Mist to make it green.  My card base is My Mind's Eye paper from the Bramble Rose collection that I picked up at Michael's using a 50% off coupon, so I got that entire pad of beautiful paper for about $2.50 if I recall.  I do get lucky with bargains, I must admit.  I am SO blessed.  I touched the edges with a mossy green acrylic coating, and of course couldn't resist some machine stitching, and the lovely Prima lace.  I think that's about everything!

I'm entering my card into the following challenges this week:

Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge Blog - Challenge:  Backgrounds - I love this patterned paper from My Mind's Eye because it looks like an old barn, a quilt, or vintage wallpaper.  I thought it was such a lovely background pattern for my card this week.

Loves Rubber Stamps Challenge Blog - Challenge #48 - The Colors of Spring - The stamp I used is not from Loves Rubber Stamps.   I used a digital image from our challenge this week at Word Art Wednesday.  I'm just happy to play along and share my art.

Our Daily Bread Designs Blog - Use Hymns or Scriptures - It's always a blessing to use scripture on my cards and projects, and I also LOVE using vintage sheet music and hymns on my crafting projects as well.  This challenge is right "up my alley" so to speak.

Thank you so much for visiting me today.  Please do consider taking a moment to link up and share the art you create this week at Word Art Wednesday in our Anyting Goes challenge for the $15 Freckled Fawn prize.

Have a safe and blessed week.  My cup runneth over!

Going "CAS" at The Kraft Journal

One of my Design Team positions is at challenge blog, The Kraft Journal, which is sponsored by its own store The Kraft Outlet.  Each week, we have a fun new challenge where you can play along.  The only "requirement" is that you use either Kraft products, or any product(s) from the WONDERFUL Kraft Outlet.  Each week, a Top 3 is selected by our Design Team based on overall creativity.  The more you play each week; creating quality projects to "knock our socks off", the more times your impressive and creative work will be recognized and placed into the Top 3.  Then, at the end of each month, all those names from the four to five weeks' Top 3 lists are placed into a Random Draw, and the random winner of that drawing will receive a $15 gift certificate to The Kraft Outlet.  You really do have a great chance of winning when you stop by and share your best work with us.  We do our best to stimulate your creativity by posting helpful tutorials on the challenge blog each Wednesday.  We do our best to show helpful ideas for creatively using the amazing Kraft and other products from The Kraft Outlet.  Check out the store, grab some new goodies, and come play along with us for the chance to win.  We look forward to seeing your creativity using Kraft products.
This week's challenge at The Kraft Journal is a CAS (Clean and Simple) challenge, and I usually struggle with CAS cards.  So I pulled out a few of my new supplies from The Kraft Outlet to create something fairly simple.  I began with a Lunch Bag Kraft Note Card and then added a couple different styles of the fabulous new Decorative Washi Tapes now available at The Kraft Outlet, and then I adhered them to the kraft card as well as to a Mini Kraft Merchandise Bag.  Next, I added the black accent of a Jenni Bowlin Rub-On to make it POP.  Two of the reasons I love the Mini Kraft Merchandise Bags so much are 1: because they are just the perfect size for tucking in a gift card (which I did - if you can see it peeking through), and 2:  the fact that they cost just TWENTY CENTS each!!  I lightly touched the edges with cream colored acrylic paint, and then added an accents at the top using a Number Flag Banner Sticker adhered to the coordinating Chipboard Flag Pieces with a candy-coated glittered Tiny Wooden Clothes Pin for fun!  If I can create a CAS card, YOU can do it too...so I hope to see you ALL play along in this week's fun CAS challenge at The Kraft Journal.

Have a blessed week!

More Spring Flowers

I haven't seen this Junkitz Fanciful line since shortly after it came out in 2007.  I remember just HAVING to own it all, and it's now part of my ridiculously huge "stash", and something or another prompted me to take it out today and create a card with it.  I really do love the papers, stickers, and the chipboard flowers that came with this set.  It was fun to use them once again.
I'm entering the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp Challenges - April Showers and/or Spring Flowers - I went more with the Spring Flowers!

The Paper Shelter Blog Challenge - Challenge #107 - Spring Delights

Thanks for stopping by, and please be sure to stop by and share with us this week at Word Art Wednesday - Anything Goes, sponsored by Verses Rubber Stamps.

Wagon Full of Spring Flowers

I hope this post finds you all having a blessed day, and having fun surfing blog land for inspiration.  I fell in love with a sweet little card by Jinny Newlin in the May edition of CARDS magazine.  It completely inspired me to make this lifted version of her masterpiece.  It's not as amazing as hers, but it was a lot of fun to make, and I just LOVE being inspired by all the talented people out there.  The entire May edition of the magazine was just stuffed FULL of darling ideas.  I will be busy for quite some time trying to recreate all the sweet things I saw.  I also have some new goodies I just bought, and I refuse to let them sit.  So....I will be creating some new things and using all these great finds in my design team projects, and other creations for challenges, gifts, and just for fun!  I am so blessed that I have the time to create.   I am so grateful to God for the life I have.

This card was made with a piece of buff ivory Bazzil that I ran through my Big Shot  inside a Cuttlebug folder that I purchased on clearance a while back at JoAnn Crafts for just one dollar.  I used some older narrow May Arts gingham ribbon, some baker's twine, natural jute, some wool felt from Wool Felt Central at Prairie Junction, some flower die-cuts from Papertrey Ink, a floral sticker from October Afternoon, and a Spring sentiment printed on vellum that I've had in my stash for about 100 years or so.  It feels good to use up some older things as well.

I'm entering the following challenges with this card:

Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog - Simon Says April Shows and/or Spring Flowers -I focused on the Spring Flowers in this wheelbarrow of flowers with Spring sentiment

Twist of Faith Cards Challenge - Challenge #32 - Getting in Shape

Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenges - Challenge #69 - Buttons and Bows

Mark's Finest Papers Simple Salutations - Challenge #40 - Add An Embellishment (and my simple sentiment is "Spring")

The Shabby Tea Room - Week #161 - Shabby Spring.  My color scheme is somewhat different from the inspiration photo, and may not "bear merit", but it is, nonetheless a Shabby Spring creation and I thought I'd share it anyway.

The Paper Shelter Challenge - #107 - Spring Delights - I hope this will "delight" someone.  It sure gave me joy to make and share it!

Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge - #149 - Other Than Square or Rectangle

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope your day is filled with happiness, joy and praise.  I sure am grateful to have you visit, and I really hope that you will all stop by and play along in the challenges this week at Word Art Wednesday - Anything Goes and at V's Sweet Ideas Challenge Blog - Anything Goes this month.  We would be SO happy to see you stop by and share with us in both challenges.

Have a blessed day!

Creating Flowers at The Kraft Journal

Hello friends!  This week at The Kraft Journal I was asked to share a quick tutorial on how to create quick and easy flowers using Hemp Cord and baker's twine.  And just for the record, you can use MANY different products for this technique including very narrow ribbon, jute, hemp, baker's twine, a narrow lace, or anything thin.  I started with 12 pieces of the natural hemp cord cut into 2 1/4" lengths, and 8 pieces of red baker's twine cut into 2" lengths.  I also hand-cut a 1" circle out of Lunch Bag Kraft Card Stock to use as a base.  Here are the lengths I cut.
I covered the 1" Kraft Card Stock Circle with my favorite adhesive.  I used my favorite red tacky tape from Michaels, but you can use a glue stick, hot glue gun, or whatever adhesive you may prefer, or have available.  I tend to use this red double-sided tape A LOT.
I started making my flower by doubling over the cut lengths of hemp and attaching the ends into the adhesive to secure them.  My method is to do it like clock work; staring at 12:00, then 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and then adding two more lengths in between each of those.  After you've attached the 12 lengths of doubled-over hemp, it should look something like this:
Then, I take my cut lengths of baker's twine and stagger them in between the other loops to fill in the circle.  They are spaced further apart, and will look something like this after you've added all 8 lengths.  Don't be too concerned about spacing them perfectly, and feel free to experiment with various lengths, different numbers of lengths, etc.  It all depends on what size flower you're trying to make.
Don't worry about the fact that the center looks unattractive.  We have a solution for that!  Simply take a button, brad, or small embellishment of your choice, and use adhesive to secure it to the center of your flower.  I used a simple button, and tied it off with some red and brown baker's twine.  You could use a pretty brad or a small embellishment to match your project.
Wasn't that simple?  And like I said, this method can be used with a narrow grosgrain ribbon, jute, or any narrow trim you have on hand.  Get creative and try different textures and colors with this technique.  You could even use longer lengths to make a bigger flower, and add a third row of color and texture to your flowers.  It's an inexpensive and creative way to make flower embellishments for your cards and projects, and the Kraft Outlet has everything you need to get started.

I used my little flower to create a real simple card.  I just took a Lunch Bag Kraft Note Card and attached a piece of Jenni Bowlin patterned paper to the front along with a piece of burlap, and then I secured my flower, added a sentiment that is stamped on a piece of Buff Ivory Card Stock, and then put a little piece of Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon stapled to the edge.  Very quick and simple.
There's really no end to the possibilities of crafts you can create using these simple little flowers.  Just use your imagination to make different colors, textures, and various sizes of flowers for any project.  I hope this quick and easy flower tutorial was helpful to you.  Have a great week, and don't forget to join this week's challenge at The Kraft Journal.  We LOVE seeing your art shared in our challenges!

I also hope you will stop by and share with us at Word Art Wednesday where today begins another great Anything Goes challenge.  You're welcome at both challenges, and we look forward to having you play along.

Blessings,
Karen

Sweetness of October Afternoon

My "go to" pile is often my October Afternoon bin.  Their patterned papers, stickers, and embellishments always make for fun cards and mini albums.  It's just always been one of my most favorite companies because all the different lines just work together SO well.  You just have to love October Afternoon!  I used three different OA patterned papers, a flag (to which I added a Pebbles in My Pocket rub-on), a pin, some stickers, pieces from the Flower Sack, a die-cut from Papertrey Ink, some ribbons, and machine stitching.  I simply LOVE it all!
I would like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog - Happy Birthday Challenge

Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenges - Challenge #69 - Buttons and Bows - I used a "button" from October Afternoon and two different ribbons

The Ribbon Reel Challenge - Challenge #50 - Mix and Match - I love the concept of mixing and matching various patterned papers.  I used one solid cardstock and covered it with striped washi tape, and then used two October Afternoon patterned papers, and of course.....delicious ribbons!

Thank you SO very much for visiting me today, and please know how very grateful I am to have you stop by!

Blessings,
Karen

God's blessings to you all,
Karen

And please don't forget to stop by and play along with us in our Anything Goes Challenge this week challenge at Word Art Wednesday where everyone is more than welcome to share their art.  Big Hugs!

Have a Happy Birthday

I almost forgot about my niece's birthday, and so I sat down and whipped up a Birthday Card faster than I think I've ever made a card in my life.  I had to finish it, and then rush off to the post office to get it mailed.  My head was spinning, but within 30 minutes, I had completed the card, addressed it, ran to the post office, mailed all my packages, and gotten home.  That's record time!  And for those of you who won at Word Art Wednesday in last week's challenge, I got all your prizes mailed as well.  It feels SO good to have it all accomplished.  Now, I need to figure out what's for dinner.
I used some October Afternoon patterned papers and chipboard, some Twinery twine from V's Sweet Ideas, and a Verve sentiment stamp.  That's about it.....quick and simple.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp Vintage Challenge Blog - Absolutely Anything Goes

Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge Blog - Challenge #69 - Buttons and Bows Theme -I've used a baker's twine bow and a button as well.  Really Reasonable Ribbon is just amazing, and has incredible products.  Check out their wonderful store.....SO much fun!

Have a great week, and thanks for stopping by!
